Lin Family Portraits

It's a great pleasure taking these pictures of my friends and their cutie little man! Baby was definitely a rock star and an instant model! Here are some of the shots we got that day.

San Francisco Dreamscape

On a recent morning, I woke up at 4:00AM and drove to San Francisco hoping to capture some scenes with the fog. But as I was approaching the city, it became clear that my initial plan won't materialize. Though the sky was still dark, I can see that it was too overcast with no texture, and there was no fog! Ah! Weather forecast has once again played games with me! Since I was already more than half way there, I decided to just proceed but chose a different location which I hoped is more suitable for the weather condition. I like this image which incorporated elements of the old and forgotten with the new and thriving in the background. It's my consolation picture from that morning and I hope it was worthwhile.

Tufa Formation

I have the opportunity to visit this spot on a weekend trip recently. It was my first time here, and I absolutely fell in love with this place the very moment I saw it. I arrived just on time. Unfortunately, that means I did not have much time to scout around. This place is amazing to look and tour around, but it felt quite overwhelming to shoot. Maybe it was due to the number of people here or the difficulties of finding my way in and around these tufa columns. Being my first time here, I wanted to include the most recognizable tufa formation in my frame, so I ended up choosing this small section of the lake where I can see this popular rock formation and use the partially submerged tufas as my foreground element. The water was a bit choppy that day thus, I could not get that perfect reflection of the tufas that I had hoped for. Well...maybe next time!

Please let me know what you think. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Mossbrae Paradise

A closeup view of Mossbrae Falls. July 2011.

This was one of the places I have been wanting to visit for the past 2 years. I have heard of how nice this waterfall was and had seen many nicer photos of it, but when I arrived here, I was speechless! This little secluded section of the Sacramento River is absolutely breathtaking to say the least. There is currently no trail to get to this spot. My friend and I technically trespassed by hiking alongside an active train track to get here.

Sundial Bridge

It's been a very long while since I had last shot a landscape photo. I recently did a 24-hour photo trip to Redding and Dunsmuir area. For a while, it felt really weird and clumsy to be using tripod and filters to take pictures. Here's a shot from the last stop of that trip, the Sundial Bridge in the beautiful city of Redding, CA. Only got to spend a few minutes here before we made our drive home. I was debating about posting this, but I kinda like the cloud motion here. Hope you enjoy it as well. Have a great day!

The Hsu Family

Two weeks ago, I have the pleasure to visit and photograph my friends and their little bundle of joy. Baby certainly did great and was well behaved that day doing the different poses that we required of him. While photographing them, it was obvious to me how much the baby is loved. I sure hope these pictures have captured a few moments of that.

Headshot

A headshot of my photographer buddy. November 2010.

We were discussing the details of a similar portrait - the shadow on the face, the gradient background, the colored lighting on the back, etc - then I asked him to be my model, which he graciously accepted. The funny thing was when we were ready to shoot, I realized that we did not bring charged batteries for my flash. In the end, we only got to squeeze out 3 shots, and here's what we got.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Memories

On one quiet morning. Remnants of an old pier. July 2010.

Standing in front of these old pilings and listening to the waves on this quiet morning allowed me to think of a lot of things. Seeing how resilient these pilings are against the constant crashing waves reminded me of how we need to be strong and how much we can endure if we are just determined.

I made a long exposure to smooth out the water to convey the feeling of calmness that I had on that foggy morning.

Walton Lighthouse

A view of Walton Lighthouse at sunrise. Santa Cruz, CA. October 2010.

This was one of my favorite from October last year. I remember we just had a few days of rain and couple of storms just passed, so my friend and I decided to go out and take some pictures. We woke up at 4:30AM and drove to Santa Cruz for sunrise. When we approached the Santa Cruz mountains, it was really quite foggy, and my thought was, "Oh no! Not again!". Luckily, when we got to the coast, it was clear! Although, none of those "dramatic" rain clouds were present in this scene, nevertheless, the light that morning was really nice.

Sometimes, it's a great experience to wake up early and be at a coast or beach to watch the light unfolds. And that morning was certainly one of those days.

Painted Ladies

A classic view of the row of Victorian houses in San Francisco with the city’s skyline as backdrop. San Francisco, CA. January 2011.

Howdy?! First of all, thanks for visiting my photo blog. Here’s my first post that I am excited to share with you all. Hope you guys enjoy!

I have wanted to take this picture for some time now. But I wanted to take this during the holiday season so the light on top of Transamerica building will be lit. The month of December went by very quickly. Although we had a few days off but I was either busy with other stuff that were more important or the weather was just not suitable. On other occasions, I would prefer cloudy sky but for this view, I wanted a clear sky so the skyline in the background can be clearly visible with no other distracting elements. In the high-res image, you can also see Christmas decors inside some of these houses! Very cool to look at! (talking about privacy! hehehe)

When I did not get a chance to come here by year end, I thought my window of opportunity has closed. Luckily, in early January the weather cooperated and I had the afternoon and evening free to visit this place and capture this image.

Print Format Details and Pricing:

Lustre Paper Print

Printed on Archival quality Kodak Professional Endura Lustre paper. Lustre paper has a fine grain pebble texture on it making it similar to the traditional matte finish but with better color saturation and contrast. This paper type is also more fingerprint resistant and has the least glare. Choose this paper type if glare is a concern.

Metallic Paper Print

Printed on archival quality Kodak Professional Endura Metallic paper. Metallic paper has a metallic appearance for stunning visual impact. It delivers exceptional depth and richer vibrant colors that makes the image pop! This paper type is my personal favorite among the two. Choose this paper type unless glare is a concern.

Giclée Canvas Gallery Wrap

Giclée Canvas Gallery Wraps are printed directly onto museum quality canvas material using high quality archival inks giving the image that fine-art treatment seen in galleries. A coating of Glossy or Lustre Laminate is then applied to protect the surface of the print. The canvas is then wrapped around a wood stretcher frame and comes ready to hang.

Aluminum Metal Print

Metal Prints represent a new art medium for preserving photos by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, your images will take on an almost magical luminescence. Metal Prints give bright vivid colors, exceptional sharpness, and a life-like depth of detail that cannot be matched by conventional paper prints. It has a medium gloss surface which maintains good color saturation while minimizing glare. It comes with a float mount hanger (or a 3/4" inset frame for sizes 30"x45" and up) that is ready to hang on your wall for a modern display.
